A Personal Account, Professional Opinions, and What Every Pet Parent Deserves to Know
For over a decade, Chloe was the picture of joy… barking at noises, dancing in circles and squealing joyously for visitors, and curling up beside me like everything was perfect.
Even at 11 years old, she was still playing, barking, and soaking up sunshine like a puppy.
But just before her 12th birthday, something changed.
Her health noticeably declined… and fast.
Her belly had been swelling slowly over the past few years… forming a pot-bellied shape that no one could explain.
She tired quickly.
Sometimes her eyes looked confused… like she wasn’t in her body anymore.
It didn’t make sense.
Until I remembered…
Just before her former vet retired, he insisted Chloe receive a rabies booster shot.
Not because she needed one.
Not because she had been exposed.
But because it was on paper.
That’s when I started to connect the dots.
The Timeline No One Warns You About
Within about a year of that booster, Chloe’s belly began distending.
Liver concerns.
Possible heart involvement.
Cushing’s-like symptoms.
But no vet could point to the cause.
I started asking questions… and brought my suspicions to ChatGPT.
Surprisingly, the pieces started falling into place.
That’s when ChatGPT guided me toward reaching out to veterinarians, researchers and organizations actively studying these issues.
Then I came across a growing body of research that linked repeated rabies vaccination to autoimmune disorders and tumors in dogs — especially older, smaller breeds like Chloe (and even Nugget!).
I reached out to veterinary experts and researchers — including Dr. Jean Dodds, a well-known voice in the field of holistic veterinary medicine.
She sent me two documents:
- A webinar PDF presented with Holistic Actions discussing the Rabies Challenge and safer vaccine practices
- A published study on heavy metals found in veterinary vaccines, co-authored with Dr. Patricia Jordan
While I cannot legally share these documents publicly due to copyright restrictions, I can summarize what stood out.
What the Research Shows (In Plain English)

- Some vaccines contain trace amounts of aluminum, mercury, and other heavy metals that build up in a dog’s system over time.
- Older dogs or those with compromised immunity (even from age alone) may not detox these substances effectively.
- Repeated rabies boosters can overstimulate the immune system, potentially triggering autoimmune responses such as:
- Hemolytic anemia
- Hypothyroidism
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Cancerous tumors
- One documented case (included in Dr. Dodds’ presentation) even connects a rabies booster to the onset of behavioral issues and seizures in an otherwise healthy dog.
Three Dogs. Three Different Fates. One Pattern.
My very first fur-baby Princess was diagnosed with lupus.
Tiffany — Princess’s daughter — was cruelly poisoned by someone who had been close to me. Heartbreakingly, they even bragged about it later during our divorce.
Simona — who developed liver issues that couldn’t be effectively treated during COVID, likely worsened by her lifelong habit of eating her own stool. (She was rehomed once before coming to me, and no one warned me about this.)
Chloe, now faces what appears to be a vaccine-triggered autoimmune disorder.
And let’s not forget little Nugget, who I now suspect had undiagnosed Cushing’s before his passing.
As a lifelong dog lover, this isn’t theory to me.
It’s personal.
It’s painful.
And it’s preventable.
Why I’m Sharing This

I’m not anti-vaccine.
I’m anti-uninformed.
There’s a difference… and it matters.
We deserve to know that:
- There are titer tests that can confirm immunity without revaccination.
- Some provinces and states have legal exemptions for rabies shots in senior or medically fragile pets.
- Annual vaccination schedules are often outdated, not scientifically necessary.
Most of all, we deserve the truth before it’s too late.
What You Can Do (Starting Today):
Ask your vet about titer testing instead of automatic revaccination.
If you’ve lost a pet to autoimmune issues, request their vaccine history and review the timing.
If you’re a vet, researcher, or policymaker: I’m willing to privately share these documents with you to help inform better protocols.
